CLR Academy Named Partner Organization of the Year by Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

YPSILANTI, Mich. — April 21, 2026 — CLR Academy has been named a Partner Organization of the Year by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), recognizing the organization’s sustained commitment to youth development, mentorship, and community impact across Washtenaw County.

The honor reflects CLR Academy’s growing influence as a grassroots leader dedicated to empowering young people through sport, education, and life skills programming.

“We are proud to announce that WMBK’s CLR Academy has been selected as a Partner Organization of the Year,” said Jamall Bufford, Director of Washtenaw County My Brother’s Keeper. “This award is a testament to your dedicated work and the impactful collaboration surrounding the CLR Academy. The model they’ve built is exactly what community-centered youth development should look like—intentional, consistent, and transformative.”

Building a Movement from the Ground Up

Founded in Ypsilanti, CLR Academy was created with a clear mission: developing minds, bodies, and futures. What began as a small, community-driven initiative has grown into a multi-dimensional youth development platform serving hundreds of young people annually.

Over the past five years, CLR Academy has built programming that extends far beyond the field or court. Its offerings include:

  • Free access to sports such as basketball, soccer, and football

  • Academic enrichment and literacy programming

  • Mentorship and leadership development

  • Wellness, STEM, financial literacy, and creative arts initiatives

The organization has also become a hub for culturally relevant programming and community engagement—hosting signature events, partnering with local and national organizations, and creating meaningful access points for youth who need it most.

Measurable Impact, Lasting Change

In just five years, CLR Academy has:

  • Provided consistent programming and mentorship to hundreds of youth across Washtenaw County

  • Created safe, structured environments that promote confidence, discipline, and teamwork

  • Built partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and corporate supporters to expand access and opportunity

  • Delivered high-impact community events that connect families, leaders, and young people

The recognition from WCSO underscores CLR Academy’s role as a trusted and effective community partner driving real outcomes.

“This recognition means everything to our kids, our families, and our staff,” said Justin Harper, Director of CLR Academy. “It validates the work being done every single day—showing up, building relationships, and creating opportunities for young people to see what’s possible for their future. This isn’t just an award for us—it’s a reflection of the belief our community has in our youth.”
